Wiedower Resigns, Special Election to be Held in December

Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role with Hillpointe, a real estate development firm, where he serves as vice president of external affairs.

His immediate resignation from House District 121 triggers a special election for December. Currently, Democrat Eric Gisler is running for the House seat in 2026 but may also choose to run for the special election.

This is not the first time a State Representative for Oconee has resigned, triggering a special election. In 2017, special elections were held to fill the seats of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick, after they left office for other positions.

That year, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez won both House seats representing Oconee County.

No comment from Wiedower or other officials is available at this time.

Author's summary: Wiedower resigns from Georgia General Assembly.
