Two neighborhoods in S.F. reveal the aftermath of a citywide RV crackdown — and it’s about to get worse

Aftermath of San Francisco's RV Crackdown

Two neighborhoods in San Francisco reveal the fallout of the city's rising RV crisis and its impact on residents. The city's efforts to curb vehicular homelessness have led to a decline in safe parking options for RV residents.

In the Lake Merced neighborhood, over a dozen RVs line the curb along John Muir Drive. One of the residents, Jessica Cuevas, 32, lives with her eight-year-old son in an RV. After being evicted from her $3,800-a-month rental, she bought the RV on Facebook Marketplace and initially parked near her son's school in the Bayview.

However, due to accumulating parking tickets, she moved to Lake Merced, where she and other RV residents may soon face displacement again, with nowhere else to go.

As San Francisco steps up efforts to curb vehicular homelessness, safe parking options for RV residents have dwindled.
