Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Tuschinski Named a European Film Treasure
Amsterdam’s Royal Theatre Tuschinski has been added to the Treasures of European Film Culture by the European Film Academy (EFA), as announced on October 9, 2025.
This designation recognizes Tuschinski as a site of historical and symbolic value for European cinema, deserving preservation for future generations.
- The Netherlands now has two locations on the list, alongside Rotterdam’s Koningshaven Bridge.
- Tuschinski theatre was commissioned in 1921 by Abraham Icek Tuschinski and his brothers-in-law.
Known for its striking Art Deco interior and exterior, Tuschinski was acquired by Pathé in 1995.
Time Out magazine named it the most beautiful cinema in the world in 2021.
