Security researchers at Kaspersky have identified a new spyware called Dante, which targets Windows victims in Russia and Belarus.
The researchers claim that the Dante spyware is developed by Memento Labs, a Milan-based surveillance tech maker.
Memento chief executive Paolo Lezzi confirmed that the spyware caught by Kaspersky belongs to Memento.
Lezzi blamed a government customer for getting caught using the malware, stating that it was their fault for the exposure.
The Memento Labs company was formed in 2019 after a new owner acquired and took over the early spyware maker Hacking Team.
Author's summary: Memento Labs' spyware was used in a government hacking campaign.
