The city of Charlottesville, Virginia, has reached a settlement in a lawsuit that left it without a zoning ordinance since summer.
The Charlottesville City Council voted unanimously on October 20 to settle the lawsuit, which was brought by residents who argued that the city failed to follow procedural requirements when updating its zoning ordinance in 2023.
- The city will fund two studies: one on transportation impacts and one to model future infrastructure and public service needs.
A circuit court judge had ordered the city's zoning code to be repealed in June due to a missed filing deadline.
