Robin Moore sent this message after being pulled under the water just after midnight on November 5, 1985. The heavy rain and raging river made the situation dire, with mobile homes not designed to withstand such conditions.
The affected mobile home belonged to Rob Roy Watkins, a retired assistant postmaster of Morgantown, who had moved to the mountains of Hardy County and his hometown of Moorefield after retirement.
Rob Roy, an outdoorsman and widower who later remarried, had chosen this location for his retirement, surrounded by the confluence of the Potomac River and its South Fork branch.
