London-Irish Artist Bernard Canavan's Story to Premiere at Cork Film Festival

A new documentary, Theocracy, about the life of London-Irish artist Bernard Canavan, will have its world premiere at the Cork International Film Festival this month.

Sé Merry Doyle, the film director, said: "I am very much looking forward to it, more so than most films because it was such a long journey, so hard to make because we had no funding except for the good people of London. The emigrants paid for the film."

Canavan was born out of wedlock and taken from his biological parents to be raised in Saint Patrick's Guild, an orphanage in Dublin run by the Sisters of Charity, despite his parents' plans to marry.

The documentary explores Canavan's life, and its premiere is a culmination of a long and challenging production process.

Author's summary: Documentary on London-Irish artist premieres.
