European Drug Gangs Burying Cocaine: A Desperate Measure
Wholesale prices of cocaine have plummeted across much of Europe, forcing drug smugglers to manipulate the market.
In December, authorities in southwest Spain discovered two speed boats carrying large packages at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River.
- The cargo was transported 60 km upriver to a farm in Coria del Río, on the fringes of Seville.
- A search of the farm uncovered two shipping containers buried underground, containing seven metric tons of cocaine.
- The estimated street value of the cocaine was 420 million euros.
