The retirement of an 88-year-old man might not seem like news, but one central Virginia community is celebrating him and the contributions he’s made to local history.
A tiny town in Fluvanna County, Palmyra, is home to an Eastern Orthodox monastery and a studio where a leading artist paints religious icons, thanks to one man, Marvin Moss.
Moss, raised in Western Maryland, discovered the wider world at 13 when his uncle, a West Point graduate, invited him and his brother to spend a summer in Panama's Canal Zone.
“We were put on the train to New York, all by ourselves, and went to Pier 64 on the Hudson and got on the USS Panama.”
This experience set the stage for a life of adventure and created a rich cultural center in Palmyra.
Author's summary: Marvin Moss retires after lifetime service.
