Fibre and Cable Broadband in the Netherlands

Fibre will not be the sole broadband technology in the Netherlands, as cable broadband remains important.

In the first quarter of 2025, fibre overtook cable as the dominant broadband technology in Dutch households for the first time, with most gains coming at the expense of older copper xDSL networks.

Despite a dip in users, cable broadband is still expected to play a key role in the Netherlands' connectivity landscape.

The Dutch market is expected to remain competitive as the fibre roll-out continues.

KPN now passes 5.51m homes, with 695k connected through Glaspoort, a joint venture with APG, and reports 4.3m of these homes are connected.

Author's summary: Fibre and cable broadband coexist in the Netherlands.
