Solar PV Curtailment in Chile Continues to Grow
As of August 2025, the curtailment of solar PV and wind capacity in Chile has reached 3.2TWh, marking a slight increase from the same period in 2024.
According to Ana Lía Rojas, executive director at ACERA,
this is a slight increase from the same period a year ago, but the rate of growth is slower compared to the increase in curtailment between 2023 and 2024.
- In 2024, nearly 6TWh of solar PV and wind capacity was curtailed, representing a 133% growth from the previous year.
- Last year, 2.2TWh of new solar PV generation was added to the Chilean grid, but the curtailment for solar PV increased by 2.7TWh, indicating a problem.
