The concept of the MVP character in WWE was inspired by an NFL star, according to Andrew Goldstein, a former WWE creative team member.
Goldstein shared this information with Conrad Thompson of AdFreeShows.com on The Insiders podcast, revealing how a former NFL star influenced Dusty Rhodes to create the MVP gimmick.
“You could just see the wheel spinning, I mean, the best example of that is MVP”
Goldstein explained that MVP was in developmental at the time, with a rudimentary version of his character. He mentioned being a big Eagles fan and the influence of Terrell Owens during that time.
The MVP character eventually came together with a full body suit and sports-styled presentation, reflecting the inspiration from the NFL star.
