Driving Licence Distribution Status After Arson
The distribution of driving licences has been halted due to a fire at the Transport Management Department’s office on September 9.
A total of 18,000 licences were destroyed in the blaze, with only 3,000 found intact out of 22,000 printed licences.
- 2.5 million licences are pending.
- 600,000 blank licence cards were found safe, but their usability is uncertain due to damaged printers.
Authorities plan to resume printing after Tihar.
The department’s server has been offline since the incident, making it impossible to verify the number of licences printed before the fire, according to Director Keshav Khatiwada.
A solution for the destroyed or missing licences has not yet been decided.
