New York Attorney General Letitia James is facing allegations of housing a fugitive in her Virginia home amidst a fraud case.

According to reports, James has allowed her grandniece, Nakia Thompson, and Thompson's three children to live in the residence since 2020.

Ms Thompson was sentenced to probation for misdemeanor convictions for assault and battery and trespassing, and has willfully avoided probation supervision. An absconder is considered a fugitive.

Thompson is officially listed as an "absconder" by authorities in North Carolina for failing to complete her probation, said Keith Acree, communications director for the North Carolina Department of Corrections.
