Poultry growers should check their water lines regularly, as water quality can impact microbial populations and lead to biofilm buildup.
According to a new study, biofilm, a thin layer of carbohydrates, proteins, and fats, can harbor pathogenic bacteria like Salmonella, regardless of water quality.
“If you have good water quality, that doesn’t mean you don’t want to understand what’s in your water lines and in the biofilm,”
said Tomi Obe, assistant professor of poultry science. Author's summary: Biofilm buildup affects poultry water quality.
