Jessica Pegula has trailed 3-8 in head-to-head matchups against World No.1 Aryna Sabalenka, but she recently secured her third win over the Belarusian.
Pegula came from a set down to win in the ongoing Wuhan Open, after playing 11 matches against Sabalenka and suffering four consecutive losses.
Before this year, Pegula had never progressed beyond the third round in Wuhan and had not played a quarterfinal in a WTA 1000 event of the East Asian swing.
Her China Open run was ended by Linda Noskova in the semifinals, and Sabalenka was the reason Pegula couldn’t win three Big Titles after reaching the finals, including last year’s US Open.
Pegula secured her career’s third win over Sabalenka after 11 matches.
Author’s summary: Jessica Pegula beats Aryna Sabalenka in Wuhan Open.
