Researchers find much Mexican satellite data is unencrypted and easily hacked

Unsecured Mexican Satellite Data Vulnerable to Hacking

Researchers have discovered that a significant amount of Mexican satellite data is unencrypted and easily accessible.

Data from various sources, including the government, military, banks, and private companies like Walmart and CFE, can be obtained using simple and inexpensive equipment.

A team of computer scientists from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), and the University of Maryland (UMD) demonstrated this vulnerability by intercepting unencrypted satellite data from a rooftop in San Diego.

GEO satellites have been shown to be particularly susceptible to interception attacks

The findings were published in a paper titled "Don't Look Up: There Are Sensitive Internal Links in the Clear on GEO Satellites."

Author's summary: Mexican satellite data is easily hacked due to lack of encryption.
