A consortium project, 'Understanding Large and cOmplex Power sYstems' (UTOPYS), led by TU Delft, has received €16.5 million from NWO's Large-Scale Research Infrastructure (LSRI) programme.
The project aims to build the world's largest research cluster for real-time energy system studies, creating a digital twin that dynamically represents complex electricity systems.
The new research infrastructure will be the first of its kind worldwide.
Electricity systems worldwide face pressures from the electrification of transport, heating, and industry, driving unprecedented loading and congestion.
