Democrats have made significant gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.
In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legis. Stark for the North Fork seat. According to Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer,
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight.”
In Nassau, Democrats picked up an open seat, further solidifying their presence in the county legislatures. With most precincts reporting, no other incumbents appeared to be ousted, although results in Nassau's 9th district were still inconclusive early Wednesday.
