Borrowing a phone charger from someone else is a common practice, but it can pose a risk that many people may not be aware of.
October is Fire Prevention Month, and the Traverse City Fire Department is spreading a message to students in the area about the potential dangers of rechargeable devices, including lithium-ion batteries.
"We're actually focusing on grades fifth through ninth this year, and we're projected to hit every one of them,"
said Fire Inspector Jacob Steichen, who is taking this message to students across the area.
The department aims to educate students about the importance of respecting powerful and prevalent rechargeable devices.
