Waymo Co-CEO Emphasizes Need for Transparency in Autonomous Vehicle Safety
Waymo co-CEO Tekedra Mawakana stressed the importance of rival autonomous vehicle companies being more transparent about their safety data.
During an interview at TechCrunch Disrupt 2025, Mawakana expressed her concerns about the lack of transparency from other companies working on autonomous vehicles, stating that they need to do more to prove their technology is safe.
"I don’t know who’s on that list, because they’re not telling us what’s happening with their fleets,"
Mawakana highlighted Waymo's commitment to prioritizing safety while scaling operations, citing the company's recently released data which shows that Waymo's vehicles are five times safer than human drivers and 12 times safer with respect to pedestrians.
