Quantum Networking Achieves 99% Accuracy Using Optical Fiber Cable

Quantum networking has achieved stable and high-fidelity communication through existing fibre networks with no data loss or corruption.

A recent experiment demonstrates that quantum data can be safely transmitted through standard fibre cables used for the internet, with a 99% accuracy rate.

The system utilizes entangled photons, which are special light particles connected through entanglement, a link between two particles that remains even when they are far apart.

In previous experiments, wavelength mismatch caused data loss and reduced network reliability. However, scientists have now used atoms of ytterbium-171 (¹⁷¹Yb) to create photons at a wavelength of 1389 nanometres, matching the telecom range.

Author's summary: Quantum networking achieves 99% accuracy.
